Vegetarian Yee Sang

This year I really got my very early “Yee Sang”…a vegetarian style. ”Yee Sang” literally means "raw fish" in Chinese. As you know, I really love to eat it. It is something like salad with some raw fish meat served during the Chinese New Year and mix with some sweet plum sauce and lemon juice. The dish is so colorful and so appetizing. Every year, my family and I almost eat as much as possible almost 2-3 times a week during the Chinese New Year.

After the “Yee Sang” is served, we will slowly hold our chopsticks and toss the “yee sang”- all the ingredients in the plate as high as possible and speak out our wishlist. Eg: hope career go smoothly, stay healthy, stay pretty, stay happy, earn more money and many more etc. This is really one of the traditions which I think is very happy moments whereby we can gather one family or a group of friends sitting together and having their nice dinner and enjoying tossing and laughing when they hear the wishlist…haha…

Im sure I will go for more “Yee Sang” coming this Chinese New Year. May the year 2009 bring more happiness to everyone…

Vietnam House

Im sure I did post a Vietnamese food in my blog here. Coming this, I tried it at Genting Highlands. It kinda different feel. The place is warm which so suit us after walking around in a cold weather in Genting. We need to walk on a bridge and stairs to reach the restaurant. No worry, it just a short distance. Then we are went to the top floor which is the VIP place. Due to we have 8 persons in a group and only VIP have such a big table to let us sit. From the place, I can saw the outside of the First World Plaza. You can see many people walking around and taking photos.

The restaurant is not so noisy on the top. We can see many lantern light and also colorful umbrellas on the ceiling. All the waiter and waitress is wearing something like Vietnamese traditional gown and shirt. I wonder are they Vietnamese as they don’t really understand what we are trying to talk. But no worry, they can converse in simple English, Mandarin etc.

Beef Noodle- My friend say this is their famous dish in Vietnam oh. Look delicious but I don’t eat beef. A simple something like “kiew tiew” mee with slices of thin beef meat and many chopped spring onions.

Seafood Fried Noodle – Erm, if you ever ate the “Cantonese Fried Mee”, then this is something like that. But this 1, you still can see the egg yolk is still nicely shape on the plate. Still raw. The “yee mee” is crispy with a thick egg gravy cooked with different seafoods like prawns, squids, fishballs, chicken meats and lots of vegetables.

Seafood Glass Noodle – lol…It got the same ingredients with the seafood fried noodle. Same have prawns, squids etc but it is in soup based. A good choice too.

Chicken Chop with Steamed Pork Meat Rice – Erm, chicken breast being fried till cooked and served with rice and a small piece of Steamed Pork Meat.

Pork Chop with Steamed Pork Meat Rice – Same thing like chicken chop. I wonder is it the steamed pork meat is their tradition dish or how. Mostly every plate of rice ordered will have the that pieces of steamed pork meat(Yellow color like an egg in the pic above).

Coconut Curry Noodle – this dish really surprise me. When the dish is served, you will see the curry was placed inside coconut with a bowl of noodle. Then in between the coconut has something which I cant see clearly like salt. Then the waitress light on fire and the dish look so special. As my friend ate it, it slowly spoon those curry with vegetables and seafood and eat together with the noodle. Looks so yummy, if ever got a chance, I will try this next time.

Hou Mei Restaurant

In Chinese, Hou Mei means tasty which is a word to describe the food or a drink. As we reach to Genting Highlands, we are just unsure what to eat. As you know, eating there is sure expensive than in KL or maybe other place. But luckily, I have some friends who have discount coupons to ease our expenses there. Lol….

It is situated around a corner of the First World Plaza decorated with lanterns just like trying celebrate the coming Chinese New Year.. All customers will be guided to the place to sit and a menu to look through. Each of us looks onto the menu and ordered our food. There are quite a lot of foods and beverages to be chosen from. But not to forget, price sure slightly higher than the normal so don’t feel so surprise when you look into the menu. One thing we found out that their service is not so good. When we try to presented our discount coupons, the waitress who served us trying to laugh. Thinking like we are so “kiam sap”…Kinda disappointed. The coupons is given free as being a Genting card member but the end, we get such response when we try to fully utilize it. One more thing, very weird, they presented us the bills even before all our food is served.

Chicken Rice – my friend said it is something like the Hainanese Chicken Rice. They gave a bowl of soup with the plate of rice. Erm, my friend did not like the soup. Look like not fresh on that day.

Double Cheese Chicken Burger – This is tasty and big portion. Look like a giant burger to me with 2 slice of cheese in between of the chicken meat. Burger is served with salads and some french fries.

Beef Burger – Some people may prefer to have a beef meat than chicken. So this is a good to try too..

Chicken Chop with Mushroom sauce – for those who love mushroom. For me, I don’t eat mushroom…haha..

Chicken Chop in Hawaiian sauce – same chicken chop but with sweet and sour sauce. Interesting too...

Hailam Kopitiam

It a cold morning. Thats time we are caught in the rain while we wanna get our breakfast. And we step into this coffee house. The decoration is similar to Old Town but as usual, their difference is their menu. To be honest, Hailam Kopitiam surely do offer more varieties of food than Old Town.
Our Drinks - Cincau Ice & Hot Coffee

We run through the menu a while. We did saw got Western style( breakfast like sausages & eggs with toast bread, chicken chop, nuggets & chips) ; Malaysian style (nasi lemak, rendang curry with bread, Ipoh Chicken mee soup); Hainanese style( fried mee hoon, fried rice, and many types of other rice)....

Since it is cold, i have decided to order a Hainanese Mee Hoon Soup with Cincau ice. Erm, the mee hoon soup is hot enough to warm my body with mee hoon added with some chicken, prawn and vegetables. But i dont drink its soup because i felt it is kinda oily as you see from the picture...

My bf has ordered himself a Toasted bread with egg, sausages and butter. Just a simple breakfast set with 2 slice of bread, 2 sausages, an egg with some beans. Butter is given separately to be eaten together with the bread. He had ordered a cup of coffee as drink.

Should go there for lunch or dinner too...because have many varieties...

Happy New Year

Happy 2009 to everyone...

Erm..guess where im during this countdown for Year 2009? I have went to The Curve there. My bf say got there will be fireworks there. We have reached there as early as 8pm. We have our plans already. We have parked our car kinda far from the event place so it might be easy for us to avoid any traffic jams. We will go there have a dinner and then go for a movie instead of waiting few hours outside for the countdown. We have a funny movie " Bedtime Stories"...haha...this movie is nt bad, im sure kids will love it too... I like the guinea pig "Bugsy". It got a real big and round eyes. Look cute but also stupid....but it is smart too oh....Watch for yourself.

After the movie, we still have about 1/2 hours before 12am. We just walk outside a while and they have a stage. Should be have Karen Kong and Rynn Lin but we are far than the stage so we cant see clearly. I saw some tall clowns walking around. Many peoples already reached there and some even already started spraying snow form.... The moments is really crazy. You never know that when you are standing at your own place but suddenly somebody is spraying at behind you...Scary.
Then as the clock stucked 12am, everyone yelling and spraying snow form and slowly we saw the fireworks "boom" from the building and high to the sky. Ohh..the sky really bright and so colorful. It is so beautiful that i did records part of the fireworks...Once it finish, we quickly walk back to our car and get ready to home. We are consider lucky that we are to avoid some of the traffics and be home around 1am..haha...1 year passed agian...and im a year older...I wish my dream comes true....Wish everyone happy all the time and healthy throughtout 2009....

Part 1

Part 2

Jojo Little Kitchen

Another new place for "Pan Mee"...Jojo Little Kitchen at Jalan Kuchai Maju 9, Off Jalan Kuchai. How i can find this shop? Is intro by my bro. He said the pan mee and tau fu fa there nice oh. So here we are for our breakfast. Indeed the place really crowded. As far i see nearby the new shoplots at Kuchai Lama really got many new eating place. Im sure will be there for more foods...

Knife Cut Noodle(RM 6) - a dried prawn soup noodle with some vegetable and chunks of meats. Erm, it say is knife cut noodle but i dont feel it is. But overrall is nice.

Lat Jiu Pan Mee -Dry(RM5.50) - see the name you will know it should be a very spicy pan mee le. Beside a normal pan mee should have, the Lat Jiu Pan Mee also have the meats, a chilies paste and an egg. Before you eat, you need to mix everything together with the egg yolk. The egg yolk will cover some of the mee. I scare too spicy, so i just put some of the chilies paste to mix with my mee. It is nice to eat and if you like spicy, im sure this is what you should go for it but it will be little bit dry.

Fried Fishcake(RM5) - the fishcake is nice. The fish meat is smooth, soft and nice eaten. Nice presentation. Simple with slices of cucumbers.

Tau Fu Fa (RM2.20) - a simple sweet and hot tau fu fa with brown sugar. yummy!!

Uncle Lim's Cafe - The Curve

This cafe is located at The Curve. It just the New Year Eve night and everywhere is full of peoples. So the last, we have ended to have my dinner here. The place is roughly little same with the other coffee house / Old town . The only differences will be the food and drinks.

For your info, if you want to make order, you need to Q-up nearby the specify counters. My advice is, if you are going in groups, make sure some of them is wait for make order which some other will find available table. I think during lunch / dinner time, the place will be very packed and is not easy to find a place to sit.

As im unwell, I have ordered myself a Chicken Porridge. Unlike normal porridge, they have added an raw egg into the bowl of porridge. So you will feel the porridge is more smooth. Inside they put pieces of chicken breast instead of chicken slices.

My bf had ordered the Uncle Lim's Laksa. I saw the laksa is like rendang. When i take a bite, the soup is milky with santan. It is not so spicy but also taste like asam laksa....should try it! The nasi lemak also nice but i dont have the stomach to try it..hehe...

As drinks, we have a Cham "o" and a toast bread as snacks. My bf's style....sure eat double...haha...
