Hakka Pork Noodle

Oh yeah..my bf always keep saying his hometown Hakka Noodle is the most original..haha..But sometimes he would ask me to bring him to taste those Hakka Noodle in KL. To be honest, compare his hometown, Kuala Lipis and Kuala Lumpur...there are actually many differences...As im a KL ppl, we tend to love to try new foods and sometimes the food might be very different from the originality..At 1st i also not so ok with the food he recommended to me at his hometown because it is quite plain...They have only some minced meat , noodle and some spring onion..haha...Compare KL, mostly they will have some vegetable, with some fishball and many other ingrediants to attracts their customers.

I did brings my parents to taste their hometown Hakka noodle and they have the same reaction like me at first..But longer time, im used to it..hehe...For me, as long the food is nice and yummy, i dont mind the originality...hehe..

Lets get back to the story....so today i have bring my bf to taste a Hakka Noodle which has been open long long time ago. My 1st time eating this noodle is during the time i was in secondary...I think almost 10yrs i have not been eating there. The stall is located at a lorong Jalan Pudu and whenever i pass by there, there sure many people waiting for their noodle to be served on their table.

The noodle is quite nice which i like it with some minced pork, few sliced of sweet BBQ pork and some vegetables on top of the noodle. The will be a bowl of "wan tan" soup being served together. The noodle itself is actually plain and the the minced pork gravy add flavours to it...It is something like the "wan tan" noodle but this Hakka noodle is without the dark soy sauce being mixed together...

Erm, maybe it is slightly oily to me but overrall the taste is quite ok for me. The map location that i drawn myself(as below). Hope it might help you little. I used to call that place "Pudu - Wai Sek Kai" as during the night time, there are many food stalls being open there...

Time for BBQ

Have you all been doing your own BBQ at home before? How it would be? Will it be messy or troublesome? To be honest, it is actually quite tiring too...haha..Below is my experiences. I was invited to CS 's home BBQ last weekend. Eventhough some of those things is not prepare by me but i can feel their "hard-work"...haha...

Step 1 - Tools for BBQ
Prepare 1 or 2 of BBQ grilled set if you are inviting a large group of friends. I heard my friend told me nowadays we dont have to "susah" to start up the fire. All we need is a special charcoal and a lighter. Nowadays, many people will be using the special charcoal in BBQ. It is safe and easy to use. Sorry that im not sure the name of the charcoal....

Firstly we will put the charcoal into the BBQ set and then light the fire. The charcoal will slightly burn like the firecrackers and it will slowly burn by itself. Try use a hand-fan to swing some air to make the charcoal burn faster and waited the fire enough big and the BBQ can start anytime...lol..

You may opt something like this (bought for around RM100++). It is nice and wide enough to BBQ large items such as chicken , fish or pork..

This smaller BBQ set very good and convinient especially for those children which love to BBQ their own and but make sure safety comes first...and remind those kids to be extra careful as the BBQ set is quite hot too...Never use our hand to touch on a hot grilled BBQ .

Besides this ,we need to have one or 2 tables to put all the stuffs like foods, plastic plates & spoons , wooden chopsticks, tissue papers, butter, bottle of honey or maybe desserts or drinks..And not to say, please prepare a large plastic bag at a corner to people to trash rubbish to avoid your house getting dirty and unhygiene due to the rubbish.

Step 2 -Preparation for foods & drinks
My friend told me that he will go for a his own BBQ style. We did not use those BBQ stainless steel stick but instead we use those wooden stick for steamboat. haha...low cost. Hey hey.....this i got contributed some..I stick all the mini sausages and fish balls..haha...nice le..In here, i think got more than 100 sticks. It truly scary when i saw it...I scare we cant finish it all..I suggest to my friend, if really we cant finish it or suddenly feel tired BBQ-ing...we just took out a pot and juz throw all the food into and make a "one pot steamboat"...haha....they all laugh...good ideas le!!

Mini sausages & fish ball in wooden sticks...

And not to say....super yummy bacon meat le..we love this so much and it finish fast...

My friend has asked his mum to marianted some chicken breast and pork meat. And even they use the aluminium foil to wrap the marianted fish to be grilled in the BBQ set. To be more safe, the fish is actually has been cooked a while before wrap into the aluminium foil. haha...All this can be prepared one day before.
He also had called for 50packs of nasi lemak for us just in case we are not full enough...or worry suddenly we feel hungry before the BBQ fire is set. haha..The nasi lemak is nice and yummy...I ate almost 2 packs.
As for dessert, he had prepared some watermelon which i think is very good. As you know, BBQ is quite a "heaty" stuff...so having watermelon can cool our body down and the watermelon is very juicy too..

And the last and not to forget..the drinks...guess what we are having that day?? We are having plain water...haha....do you all believe it?? I guess no one believe me le..haha....Actually mostly they have beers , soft drinks (little bit only)....and not to forget is the liqour..haha...Scary too le..That time im not so well, so im "exempted" for it.Whole day, im jus having plain water..haha...

Step 3 - All set to go BBQ-ing ....lol
We just put whatever we like to have into the BBQ grill and wait for it to be ready. You may put some butter / honey on the grilled sausages / bacon to add more flavour to it. Please make sure all foods you grilled is cooked and safe to eat..haha..
im waiting my fishball to be cooked...lol

This is our "BBQ chef of the day"...he got potential to be a BBQ chicken master at the pasar malam..haha...joking onli, man!! ...anyway, he request in future, if there is a BBQ party, please do have fan beside it..it is quite hot and smelly there...Without no choice, the end, im his "manual fan" lol....haha..

It look like i have summarize a very tiring BBQ into 3 easy steps..haha..dont think it is easy as 1-2-3....there still need the help from other friends then only it can be successfully done. If you think to have a nice home BBQ, please make sure you are prepared for it...lol...

Anyway, we all back home in a full tummy, smelly and tired body....And not to say, we enjoy ourselves too...Thanks for the nice day, CS.....

Vegetarian Bento

Saw the pic above?? Can you imagine it is 100% vegetarian?? haha..yes...because i dine it at a vegetarian restaurant mah...

I have been in in this restaurant before but this is my 1st time trying their vegetarian bento rice. Last Friday, I was going back to my old office to meet my ex-colleague,Grace for a lunch. Fyi, Grace is purely vegetarian...Dont ever try to ask her to go for Steamed Fish Head / KFC....haha..if not, she sure hit you with green veges...haha....kidding la..she is a gentle girl...

Anyway, lets get back to my lunch. The meal is served inside a bento box where each dish is allocated in a space to avoid mixing everything together. I have order for the Chicken Bento Rice. As you can see, there are a lot of sliced vegetarian chicken(about 5-6 slices) on the top right. Below is the white rice. I have request for small rice only. Then beside is the mixed salads...quite appetizing...If not mistaken, they put some vineger to add taste to the plain vegetables.... And top left is 3 pcs of rice sushi...and we also served with a bowl of soup (not in pic)....

The set is quite full and quite tasty too.. For Grace, she order the same set but with the vegetarian fish fillet...We were so enjoy the food as we really so long did not have lunch together at there...so miss those days...the day when 11am, time for "ta fu fah"...and 3.30pm time for chinese tea..haha...miss all my ex-colleague there...hehe..

The vegetarian restaurant is located same row with the Public Bank in Taman Maluri.

Amarin Heavenly Thai Restaurant

View from outside the shopping....

Interior of the restaurant

This is my 2nd time visit of the restaurant. The 1st time is few year ago. I cant remember much about the place but since everyone would prefer to meet in the town rather than going too far. And whats more? They can have early shopping before the dinner time comes..

It is a day whereby we plan to celebrate PRLY's bday. I have make reservation early and the table given is jus facing shopping centre. So the place is actually quite noisy...But it is still ok for us. Total there are 11 persons(my bf, me, PRLY & hubby, HF & hubby, YC, CY, Suki, LSK & CSK) who are joining the dinner. Me and my bf is the the 1st who reached. So, we begin to look through the menu and get our drinks 1st...I have order a peppermint tea while my bf ordered the ice blended capuccino.

As we begin to wait for the drink to served, slowly most of my friend is coming in and we started to make our orders....

Pure Peppermint Tea (RM8)- nothing much different from the outside and it is in tea bag style.

Amarin Cappucino Ice Blended (RM10) - the cappucino is quite sweet to my bf and he just not so like it.

Thai Ice Coffee (RM8) - look like a 3 layered coffee which bottom is the gula melaka, middle - milk and top is the coffee....

Thai Ice Tea (RM9) - same concept with the Thai Ice Coffee....I just noticed the price difference RM1...haha..

Lemon Grass Juice (RM8) - no ideas how is the taste. But might look little weird..A piece of lemon grass found inside the glass.. .I think is for decoration purposes...

Chilies sauce - served by the waitress there. A Thai style chilies sauce , cili padi...and another blended chilies sauce...slightly sweet and sour...It is served together with the appetizers.

Appetizer Platter(RM36-Large) - consists of fish cake, "wan tan", spring roll wrapped with prawn or vegetable and fried prawn dumpling...i love the fish cake. It it slightly look like otak-otak but it is not...inside is slightly spicy....

Mango Salad (RM14) - shredded mango , cucumber and onions....and all mixed together with lemon juice and sprinkled with some nuts...the dish is quite sour and slightly salty and my bf totally give up on this. But somehow, other is ok with it...

Fried Beancurd with Chilies Sauce (RM15) - Deep fried beancurd which just nice to dip with the Thai chilies sauce. Nice to be eaten while still hot..

Asparagus with Prawn (RM18) - stir fry asparagus with prawn. It is a small portion which suits for 2-3 persons so is actually not enough for 11 of us...so eat of us can have a bite of it only....haha...The taste is quite nice.

Pandan Leave Chicken (RM32 for 5pcs) - a piece of boneless marianted chicken meat wrapped with pandan leaves and deep fried.

Thick Tom Yam Seafood Soup (RM39.90) - erm, to be honest, it dont seem like tom yam soup to us. Not enough spicy and sour...But it is quite salty. A pot is just enough for 2-3persons and so we ordered 2 pots. Inside the pot there is prawns, squids, mushrooms and fish meat. We found out that one of the pot, the prawn is not fresh. While the other pot, the prawn is ok. So, my side here got the not fresh one...so we just feel disappointed with it.

Chestnuts with Coconut Milk (RM8)- CY said this is one of the popular desserts in Thai cuisine. So some of us had ordered it to try. Erm, at 1st it look like normal cendol with coconut but when it scoop it...suddenly it turn pinky coz of the big red sogo(i guess) and makes it look like air bandung...haha...Quite refreshing too...but some say too sweet....

Mango with Sticky Rice (RM12) - I did not try the chestnut with coconut milk because i wan to eat this mango with sticky rice. hehe..I was sharing with some friends but guess what, all the rice is finish by me as they feel quite full and some are trying to finish their chestnut dessert. Erm, the sticky rice is still warm and slightly salty. It should be nicely to have a piece of mango and then a scoop of rice which dipped into the thick coconut milk..yummy yummy...

Anyway, the total damages for each of us is around RM39 which consider pricey to us but we are entitled for 15% discount since we are paying using HSBC credit card. The promotion is valid till end of this year.

Pumpkin House

Main Entrance

Interior and the cashier / beverages counter

Welcome to Pumpkin House..haha....Is true...all the meals served there is related to the pumpkin. My bf spotted this shop and ask me wanna try or not. Haha...for sure i would love to try it too. Fyi, pumpkin is really good for our health and it is not fattening. So, i dont mind eating it since is FOC too..My bf will pay for it. To be honest, the price is quite affordable to us. And i dont mind going for 2nd time.

Anyway, here our orders that day:

Soup Homemade Pumpkin House Noodle (RM4.90)- it is actually "pan mee" but slighty sweeter. We keep guessing whether issit some pumpkin juice has been added together. But the color of the noodle is not so yellowish like the pumpkin..haha..But it is not oily and taste quite good. Fyi, the portion given is actually quite small but we still enjoying the meal. The noodle is served with 3pcs of their famouse deep fried meatball...It dont see to look like a meatball but more like the indian "muruku"...not sure how to mention it. It is very crispy outside and inside slightly smooth..

Dry Homemade Pumpkin House Noodle (RM4.90) - It actually the same noodle but it is the dry style. Not bad too..and it served with the meatball and also a bowl of soup.

Pumpkin Juice (RM3.90) - You could hear it is freshly made. haha...I saw it blended in the food processor. Added with some ice to make it a refreshing juice. I think they do not added any sugar and maintain the original sweetness in the pumpkin..

Pumpkin Juice Rice Balls (RM3.50) - pumpkin juice being boiled and thicken it to make it like those sweet bean soup with added rice balls. The filling inside the rice balls is the black sesame. Quite tasty and not too sweet...Good to be have it while it is still hot.

Beside noodle, they have rice, porridge, snacks etc and most of all, it related to the pumpkins...hehe...

Sarubobo - a gift from Japan

EL has back from training in Japan since after 1/2 year at there. She has mentioned that she have something for me. But we just dont have the chance to meet or when we meet, she forget to bring the sourvenirs for me..haha ...Im so thanked her and i say is ok if she got nothing..haha...Each of us are busy and she dont have time during weekend. So, yesterday, i know she is off for duty and im taking leave to meet her for a lunch and treating her a meal since her birthday is just over not long ago and i dont have time to celebrate with her.

What i have get? Is a Sarubobo doll...a doll without a face expression ...but when i saw it, i feel it is so cute. She explained to me. Sarubobo is a sourvenir which only available at Hida Takayama, Japan. The doll is something like a lucky charm. I searched online and found that there are few colors of Sarubobo which symbolizes different luck. Since my one is Yellow Sarubobo so it symbolizes luck in wealth...hehe..i hang it on my bf's so i can see it "dancing" as the car move...So cute.....

Beside the Sarubobo, i also have a small pouch bag which i think suit to put coins or maybe keys...

And not to say 2 hair clips specially imported from Japan...no play play oh...haha...the blue ribbon so big..Later if i wear it, will they laugh at me le?? haha...

Anyway, thanks EL...i love your gifts so much..And wish you have the best of the lucks in life...

Keep smiling...so my friends, got some hints?? i like cute cute sourvenirs from all over the countries..haha...Thank you 1st...lol..

Ying Ker Lou

Yesterday, i have taken a day leave with my bf to settle something and he go to fix his car. While everything finish, we take some time and fetch a friend of mine, EL who stay in Puchong for a lunch and some desserts..hehe...3 of us quite enjoy but i know my bf sure little bored and headache walking with 2 ladies..haha...

Anyway, we decided to bring EL to The Curve and stopped in front of the Restaurant Ying Ker Lou to browse through their menu. Based on the menu, i can see that they are serving the Hakka foods. There are quite a lot of choices and what caught our attention is the front glass door did specify that this restaurant provides the food with RO water , no MSG etc..haha...

So, what we have ordered?? Check this out:

We have decided to a pot of Jasmine Tea (RM4 per person) which i think way too pricey eventhough they served with a nice teapot and the teapot is quite heavy too...

Bittergourd with Salty Eggs (RM16) - a long piece of bittergourd with spread of the salty eggs gravy. The gravy is a bit too watery and bland. Quite a disappointed for us.

Hakka Fried Yam Cake(RM7) - The taste is quite nice and i like it too. But a bit pricey...

Hakka minced Pork Bantiao (RM12.90) - A simple noodle with minced pork on top. My bf say not so nice and they dont have a special chilies sauce when eating the Hakka noodle. He still prefer the one at his hometown : Chong Ko Hakka Mee

Drunken Egg Ginger Wine (RM14) - Erm, the eggs is being fry together with the sliced of gingers and put into the bowl of wine soup. How to say?? The wine does not suit our taste and the more you drink the soup, the more you feel it is way too sweet....Not sure is the wine get cold or how which cause this kind of "sweetness".....

Fried Egg with Raddish and Sausage (RM12) - This is consider the best dish for that day...hehe...we love the minced raddish and chinese sausages...Taste is quite flavouring. Might be due to the chinese sausage...

Brown Rice (RM3 per bowl) - no ideas what "brand " of brown rice they are cooking..as i say again, too pricey...haha...And my bf order another bowl of white rice which cost RM2 per bowl...

Overall, the taste for the food is actually slightly bland but maybe their concept is to served healthy food without any MSG but to be honest, it is too pricey to dine in there....

Pappa Rich

Last weekend, we are unsure what to have for our breakfast. We do not wish to have "dim sum" as what we usually love to have and we are not in the mood for Old Town...haha...So the end, we drop and take our meal at Pappa Rich...It is something like Old Town to me but they offered more variety to their customers.

So what we have there?? As usual, flipping over the whole menu to see any special nice food.

My bf did have lunch at there before and he recomended me the curry mee. But i did not choose curry mee instead i choose the Dry Curry Mee with Foo Chok and Fish Paste (RM8.90). Same have the curry gravy...hehe...Their curry is quite nice but the portion is just too big for me. By the time i finish it, im totally almost wanna vomit out everything...haha...Their fish cake is very nice to eat.

As for him, he choose himself the Pappa Char Koey Teow (RM8.90). Nicely stir-fry koey Teow and not too oily with some fresh clams. Actually, my bf wan to eat clams only..haha..It is served with cutted chilies and a chilies sauce whichever u like it to taste with.

My bf will never enuogh with 1 meal and so he had ordered the Roti Stim with Butter N Kaya (RM3.80) ..haha...Their bread is different from "Old Town" where the bread is slightly tall and usually such bread is available in those old "kopitiam" /simple coffee house....

As for our drink, i have ordered for Energy Detox Tea Honey (RM7.90) which i think nothing different like the honey lemon tea. And he got himself the Hainan Cham (RM3.50) ...

Anyway, the meal is quite full due to the dry curry mee i had. In future, hope to go there to try other of their foods and drinks.
