Hoe Kee Chicken Rice

Last weekend, my bf and I went for 1 day trip to Melaka and Seremban with his little bro and his gf. Is quite tiring for the driver who is my bf. During all the way in our trip, the sky is windy and dark. And it was raining most of the time. So it is quite a cold trip for us.

So we waited for his bro who came all along from Pahang and we started our journey around 11am. We reached Melaka around 1pm and it just the time for our lunch. Actually we been to Melaka before during our CNY. So, this time, we are going there to try some other food outlets.

Erm, im sure whenever you pass by there, there is sure 2 food outlet which always having a long queue and people all taking umbrella and to wait for the table. Im not sure how special but this time, i finally able to eat the Assam Fish from the Hoe Kee which i always saw many ppl but this time, not much people due to the rainny hour....

Hoe Kee is quite a unique restaurant . All the interior are mostly in wooden and have the feel of theBaba & Nyonya tradition house and make you have the feel warm like at your own house. It may be slightly hot too...if the place got crowded...hehe...

We just waited for few minutes and we got our table and a guy came over to take our orders.

Our "accessories" for the meal...

Chilies of the day...I quite like the chilies actually....good to dip with the chicken...

Assam Fish (RM34) - They just left with fish head only. The portion is stil enough for 4 of us. Erm, the assam fish is not so spicy and i think it will also suit for those kid to eat it too. The fish is fresh but overrall the taste is just normal. They just put ladyfinger with the assam gravy. Maybe this is the baba & nyonya's style of assam fish...Maybe we expect too much as we also heard from my bf's sister say their assam fish is recommended there..hehe..

Chicken Rice Ball (RM3.20 for 16pcs) - one of the signature food in Melaka. Our rice for the day but in "fish-ball" style.. The rice is cooked to quite soft so it is easy for them to make it like a ball. The rice is little salty. I think they are cooked together with chicken soup & butter to make the rice so fragant. Very attractive to those tourist and kids...Beside my table, i got a kid trying to play with it rice and eating it like a fish ball..haha..

1/2 Hainam Chicken(RM14) - Hehe....For this, the chicken is quite tender and it is good to dip and eat together with the soy sauce on the plate. Anyway, we still prefer to have steamed chicken at Ipoh.

Green Vegetable (RM2) - our vegetable of the day. The portion is quite small but still ok. Nothing special. a normal vegetable..hehe..what you expect on a small plate of green vegetable?? lol...

Overrall the dish are served quite fast even we can see there are many customers. Maybe is our lucky day that time. If you are in Melaka, you may go there to tried their food but make sure you are prepared to wait as it will be a long queue sometimes.
